Illustration/Graphic Guidelines

Submission closing date is 23rd January 2026

We are excited to be accepting illustrations that respond to this year’s anthology theme: Power. You can interpret the theme however you wish. For inspiration check out the blog post, Interpreting Power.

We accept both published and unpublished work, as well as work that has been submitted for a University of Gloucestershire assignment. Please ensure that everything you submit is your original work and that you own the publication rights. If your submission has been published elsewhere, please let us know where.

  • Both spot and full-bleed illustrations are accepted.
  • For spot illustrations, please submit no more than four pieces.
  • For full-bleed illustrations, please submit no more than two pieces.
  • You can submit both spot illustration and full-bleed illustration if you wish.

When submitting, please include “Illustration – [Title] Submission” in the email subject line and send it to cwanthology@glos.ac.uk.

File Format

PDF, PNG, TIFF, EPS and JPG formats are all accepted, but please ensure JPG files are the maximum size possible to retain print quality.

The colour profile must be set to CMYK.

Spot illustrations may be any size, but full-bleed illustrations must be at least A5 (148mm x 210mm, with bleed if possible). All submissions should have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

  • Submissions will be selected anonymously. Please do NOT include your name in the file; DO include your name in the email.
  • Transgressive themes are welcome under the provision that they are handled with sensitivity and are not used gratuitously.
  • Successful submissions will be given to editors who will coordinate with the illustrator to suggest any appropriate edits.
  • Unfortunately, we are unable to offer feedback for unsuccessful submissions.
  • If you have any questions, please email cwanthology@glos.ac.uk.

Graphic Storytelling Guidelines

We are excited to be accepting graphic storytelling pieces that respond to this year’s anthology theme: Power. You can interpret this theme however you wish. This includes graphic novel, comic strip and illustration-led storytelling.

We accept both published and unpublished work, as well as work that has been submitted for a University of Gloucestershire assignment. Please ensure that everything you submit is your original work and that you own the publication rights. If your submission has been published elsewhere, please let us know where.

Collaborations (i.e. a writer working with an artist) are acceptable. Please ensure all people involved in collaborations are acknowledged fairly.

For graphic novel/comic strip works, please submit one piece only, no longer than six pages long with a maximum of eight panels per page.

For an illustration-led story, please submit one piece only, no longer than six pages or 1000 words long. Straightforward ‘illustration plus story’ pieces (i.e. an illustration on one page and only words on the next) will need 12pt Arial font with double-spaced text.

When submitting, please include “Graphic Storytelling – [Title] Submission” in the email subject line and send it to cwanthology@glos.ac.uk.
